Born 22 Dec 1903; died 17 Mar 1983 at age 79.
American physiologist who shared (with George Wald and Ragnar Granit) the 1967 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his evaluation of ways the sensory cells of the retina of the attention compare the mild stimulus. In his early career, he studied the metabolism of nerve cells and in time got here to investigate person cells with inside the retina of the attention. He used tiny electrodes to isolate person fibres with inside the eyes of horseshoe crabs and frogs. He discovered how impulse era with inside the sensory cells transmits a code in reaction to illumination of various depth and duration. He spent nearly 1/2 of a century advancing the knowledge of the neurophysiology of vision.
