Immunology syllabus in China
- Immunology is the study of the tissues and physiological function of the immune
system.
- It explores the process and principles of how the immune system recognizes
and eliminates microbes and their components at different levels.
- It also examines the principles involved in the disease process in order to reach the goal of preventing diseases.
Course Description:
- The theoretical topics are designed to present a complete overview of the immune system, including organs, cells and molecules (antibodies, complement, cytokines, and MHC, etc.), the immune response, diagnosis and treatment, prevention and some
immune system diseases.
- The practical studies aim to help students better understand the immunologic theory. In order to improve students’ ability, they are introduced to the basic immunological experiments (cellular and humoral immunological techniques) as well as newly developed techniques and equipment.
Teaching methods
- The main way for the students to learn is to comprehend what the faculties teach.
- The faculties foster student self-study and recommend authority immunology textbooks and immunologic research websites, as well as supervise students in looking up study materials.
- Arrange seminars to discuss immunologic clinical and research papers by the way of students asking questions and teachers answering questions.
- Ask students to look up the preceding papers, to write a review or study clinical cases, to make a PowerPoint report for a group.
- Students review the theory from a textbook and read experimental protocols before doing experiments.
- The faculties teach the principles and methods and coach concerning difficult or important parts of the experiment so that the students can remember the main methods and techniques of immunology and solidify basic theory.
- After their experiments, the students will be able to improve their understanding of the immunologic theory and technique.
- It will be helpful for their immunologic research and applications in the future.
Teaching hours distribution
- The immunology course includes 54 teaching hours.
- Experiments take 13 teaching hours, accounting for 24% of the total teaching hours.
