Born July 12, 1863; died October 29, 1933 at the age of 70.
French doctor and bacteriologist, student of Louis Pasteur. He joined the Navy as a doctor, and was the Director of the Saigon Institute of Microbiology. Calmette has studied snake venom and antivenom serum therapy. He developed and improved several vaccination protocols, especially against tuberculosis, together with bacteriologist and veterinarian Camille Guerin.
