Sir Henry Hallett Dale was a British biologist and physiologist who isolated the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from ergot mushrooms. In 1936, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries in the chemical transmission of nerve impulses. Following this study, Dale showed that the substance was actually acetylcholine, thus found that chemical and electrical stimuli play a role in nerve movement.
