Rudolph Albert von Kölliker was a Swiss anatomist, physiologist and histologist who was one of the founders of embryology. He pointed out that they are made up of cells, which are not free to form but must grow from existing cells. He discovered that nerve fibers are elongated cells. Furthermore, he determined the formation of sperm from the wall of the testicle. Like fashion, pollen grains form from the cells of the anther in flowers.
