Eligibility Criteria for NEET 2023 – Eligibility to Appear in NEET-UG 2023

NEET-UG is applicable to all those who intend to pursue Undergraduate Medical Courses from Indian Medical/ Dental Institutes including INIs like AIIMS & Foreign Medical/ Dental Institutes.

 

 

 

  • NB: If you wish to pursue Undergraduate Medical Courses from Foreign Medical/ Dental Institutes, NEET-UG is needed only if you wish to practice in India only.

 

Eligibility as per related Regulations is as follows:

Age limit

Lower limit

  • 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year for all categories (Candidates of General (UR)/General-EWS & SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD Category)

Upper age limit

  • : 25 years for general & + 5 years relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL & PwD category
Nationality

Eligibility for seats under the control of States / Deemed Universities / Central Universities / ESIC and AFMC including Delhi University (DU), BHU & AMU/central pool quota, AIIMS, JIPMER:

  1. Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) including Candidates from UT of J&K and Ladakh
  2. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)
  3. Persons with Indian Origin (PIO)
  4. Foreign Nationals: should confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental/ Ayurveda/ Siddha/Unani/Homeopathy College/State

Eligibility for 15% All India Quota seats

  1. Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
  2. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)
  3. Persons with Indian Origin (PIO)
  4. Foreign Nationals: should confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental/ Ayurveda/ Siddha/Unani/Homeopathy College/State
  5. Not eligible: Candidates from UT of J&K and Ladakh

Important note on open Schools or as private candidates:

  • Candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open School or as private candidates shall not be eligible to appear for NEET.
  • Study of Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permissible.

 

Criteria of Qualification/qualifying NEET Exams (applicable to concerned INIs too):

+2 or equivalence

10+2 from The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination or equivalent (Approved /recognized institution & boards).

Core Subjects

Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) & English (level not less than the core course).

For admission in BUMS Course:

  • Candidate must have passed the 10th standard with Urdu or Arabic or Persian language as a subject or
  • Clear the test of Urdu of 10th Standard (wherever there is the provision to conduct such test) in the entrance examination conducted by the University or Board or registered Society or Association authorized by the Government to conduct such examination.

For admission in BSMS course:

  • Candidate must have passed Tamil as one of the subjects in the 10th Standard/in Higher Secondary course.
  • Candidates shall have to study Tamil as a subject during the First Professional course.

Elective subjects

Mathematics or any other elective subjects.

Minimal score

UR/General category EWS Candidates: 50% of marks in the core subjects & English.

OBC/SC/ST: 40% of marks in the core subjects & English.

PWD:

  • 45% for Unreserved & GEN-EWS category in the core subjects & English.
  • 40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL category in the core subjects & English.

Education abroad: 50% of marks in the core subjects & English and their equivalency determined by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Attempts:

Unlimited until now
