Introduction of Medicine syllabus in China
- Introduction of Medicine briefly describes the development of medicine from antiquity to the present and explores the general rule of medical science development by insight into the relationship among natural science, society, culture, politics, economy and philosophy.
- It leads students toward an understanding of the historical and the present status of medicine, the role of doctors and patients, medical education and medical study, health service system.
- This course is an interdisciplinary program and will help students project a positive professional attitude and promote the role of conversion from a medical student to a real doctor.
Teaching methods
- Classroom lectures

- Teachers apply various teaching methods such as heuristics teaching, contrasting teaching to facilitate students to learn terminology, principles, and concepts of microbiology.
- Students’ self-directed learning is needed in the individual chapters. Teachers will first provide the emphasis of the chapters and key questions. Students could focus on them and give their answers. The answers should be handed in and evaluated.
- Slides and video films will be applied to selected topics.
- Seminars will be held. Students with small groups search for the related information regarding the topic, write review articles or book reports, and give their presentation in the seminar.
- Students are encouraged to take part in the research group of teachers to have their early experience in microbiological research.
- Students will visit the health care services system in the city.

- Theory Final Exam: 60% of the total mark
- Regular marks: including Presentation: 25% and Independence learning: 10%
- Attendance: 5%
