American psychologist and educator whose work focuses on aesthetic psychology and related philosophical issues. His contributions were in clinical psychology and personality assessment. One of his projects was measuring other aspects of human nature and attempting to calibrate them as it was done with intelligence. The Downey Will-Temperament Tests received some research interest in the 1920s. He founded his psychology lab at the University of Wyoming in 1900.
