NEET UG 2023 Eligibility Criteria, Age Limit, Qualification and Eligibility Criteria for NRI/OCI

NEET UG 2023 Eligibility Criteria

NTA National Testing Agency has come up with the latest updates on eligibility criteria for NEET (UG) 2023 conducted as per related regulations of NMC and DCI for admission to Undergraduate Medical and Dental Programs in India.

NEET UG is the only entrance exam for admission to Medical, Dental, and Nursing courses in India, which are conducted once a year.

What is the Upper Age Limit?

As per latest updated notification from National Medical Commission NMC on March 9th, 2022, there is no upper age limit to appear for NEET (UG) exam.

The candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or shall complete on or before December 31, 2023.


Educational Qualification Criteria for NEET (UG)

Subjects Required Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English
Minimum Marks Required 50% for General Category
40% for SC, ST, and BC NCL
Qualification for International Students from Abroad Colleges Minimum 50% in Class 12 or Equivalent
All India Quota Candidates Eligible for 15% of seats

Eligibility criteria for admission to MBBS courses in AIIMS and JIPMER are as per their individual rules, students can consult their website of AIIMS/JIPMER for complete details.

Eligibility Criteria for NRI/OCI and Foreign Nationals for NEET (UG) 2023:

Must be an overseas citizen of India

Certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission in the country of residence.

OCI Card (as proof of OCI status)

Foreign Nationals

Must confirm eligibility with the concerned medical/dental college or state 

Documentary proof, including relevant pages of valid passport and certificate from the competent authority regarding citizenship status

Qualifying Examination Codes for NEET UG (2023):

Code 1: Candidates appearing in class 12 in 2023 can choose this code to apply for NEET UG.  Their two years of study must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as core subjects, and expecting to pass with the required percentage of marks. Candidates are not eligible for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses if they do not qualify in class 12 with the required percentage during the first round of counseling. Consideration is based on the documentary evidence of the required pass percentage of marks in the qualifying exam.

Code 2: Applicants pursuing their Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or Indian School Certification Examination, which is equivalent to 12 can check this code 2. Candidates who have qualified for class 12 from Open school or any private study with Biology/ Biotechnology as an additional subject are not eligible for the NEET UG entrance test.  As per the Hon’ble High Court candidates who passed class 12 with Biology as an additional subject will be eligible for MBBS Entrance examination.

Code 3: Any Indian university/Board and other recognized examination body for the Intermediate/Pre-degree examination in science shall include physics, chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (includes practical tests), and English as a compulsory subject

Code 4: After passing the Higher Secondary Examination or the pre-university or any equivalent exam, the pre-professional or pre-medical exam shall include practical tests in physics, chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a mandatory subject.

Code 5: Candidates from the first year of a three-year degree course from any recognized university with subjects physics, chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, including practice tests, should have passed the earlier qualifying examination with the same core subjects including English to these core courses.

Code 6: Candidates who have passed BSc. An examination from an Indian University with not less than two subjects’ physics, chemistry, Biology (Botany/Zoology), Biotechnology, and English shall also be qualified in their earlier qualifying examination with the same subjects.

Code 7: Candidates who appeared any other examination in the last two years of their 10+2 study shall comprise of physics, chemistry, Biology (Botany/zoology), Biotechnology, and English (including practical tests).
