Reginald Crundall Punnett was a British geneticist who, along with British biologist William Bateson, was among the first British Mendelian geneticists. They reported the discovery of two new genetic principles: the first explanation of the genetic link in sweet peas; and gene interaction. Punnett had a role in linking Mendelism with statistics. “If brown eyes are dominant, why didn’t the whole country have brown eyes?” Punnett took turns asking his friend mathematician GH Hardy.
